NFA Scholars Present at and Participate in Regional High School Upstander Institute
The Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center (HHREC) invited our high school scholars to participate in their 22nd Institute on Human Rights, taking place in March at Iona University in New Rochelle.
Three NFA scholars facilitated a session: Michael Jonathan Clarke, Noah Facciola, and Cassidy Jones (Quinn Fairbanks had also worked on it but couldn't attend). These students did a presentation on the environmental crisis and shared issues around waste due to plastic and fashion, offering ideas for solutions.
Additional students attended the trip and enjoyed learning about different issues.
The mission of the HHREC is to enhance the teaching and learning of the lessons of the Holocaust and the right of all people to be treated with dignity and respect. Our programs endeavor to encourage students to speak up and to act against all forms of bigotry and prejudice. Our Student Institute is intended to further our mission by promoting student awareness of human rights issues on both local and global levels and to empower students to become upstanders by creating and implementing Action Plans of their own.
The program for the Student Institute included:
飩� A keynote presentation
飩� Student led small group workshops on local and global human rights issues; students will attend two different workshops.
飩� Viewing of the Thirteen Drivers’ License exhibit
飩� A presentation by a member of HHREC’s Generations Forward Speakers Bureau
